Recovery of Connection
Embodied, Embedded, Extended, and Enactive
In this book I make the case, through my own story and current research in evolutionary biology and neuroscience, that the body’s capacity to sense, respond, and know is far older than the thinking part of the mind. I distinguish between recovery from a particular condition and the recovery of connection, a reacquaintance with that older foundation. That foundation was never confined to a single body. It extends into relationships with other people and with whatever land one inhabits.
I write from inside this work, not from the far side of it. The book is still in progress, and the title and other details may change as it comes together.

What Does “The Mind” Mean?
A Historical and Cultural Survey
A short survey of what thinkers in philosophy, the sciences, and the world’s wisdom traditions have meant by the word “mind.” It turns out they don’t all mean the same thing.
Contact John about the bookThe larger inquiry
The brain is not the whole story.
The book follows questions about embodied knowing, relationship, recovery, culture, and the wider living world. It treats mind as something a living body does in relationship, not simply something contained inside the skull.
